My first new design for 2020 is another FREE prayer shawl. I am gravitating to another direction in my crochet designing. It seems that I’ve actually been on this path for quite a while, but have now become more aware of it and more focused on it. I hope to bring you more meaningful designs this year. Of course, I can’t help but throw in some fun designs that just make me happy.
This prayer shawl was designed to honor a special crochet friend of mine, Anna Andres. She has been testing many of my patterns for years, and is someone that I really depend on. My perspective was really upended when I discovered that her dear husband had passed. I knew that he had been ill for quite some time, as Anna liked to test some of my shawls and blankets specifically to wrap around him for comfort and warmth. She never said anything about her own personal struggles throughout his illness, and maintained a humble demeanor. It’s only fitting that she has her very own shawl design to wrap herself in prayers and love.
This is a free pattern, and I encourage you to make many and give to those who need a hug and prayers.

INSTRUCTIONS
*Shawl is rectangular, and worked from top to bottom, and in rows from side to side.
*There is no right /wrong side – shawl is reversible.
*Ch or FSC the multiple as listed on pg. 2 to desired width.
*For FSC, begin pattern with Row 2.
*For foundation chains, begin pattern at Row 1.
Row 1: (Top of shawl) Working in back bumps of chs, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch to end, turn. My sample – 160 foundation chs, 159 sc.
Row 2: Begdc in first st, dc in next 6 sts, [ch 2, tr2tog, ch 2, dc in next 5 sts] to last
2 sts, dc in last 2 sts, turn. My sample – 84 dc, 15 tr2tog, 30 ch-2.
Row 3: Begdc in first st, dc in next 6 sts, [sk next ch-2, (tr, ch 3, tr) in top of next tr2tog, sk next ch-2, dc in next 5 sts] to end, dc in last 2 sts, turn.
My sample – 84 dc, 30 tr, 15 ch-3.
Row 4: Begdc in first st, dc in next st, [ch 2, tr2tog, ch 2,* dc in next tr, 3 dc in next
ch-3 sp, dc in next tr] to last 2 sts ending rep at *, dc in last 2 sts, turn.
My sample – 79 dc, 16 tr2tog, 32 ch-2.
Row 5: Begdc in first st, dc in next st, [sk next ch-2, (tr, ch 3, tr) in top of next tr2tog,
sk next ch-2, dc in next 5 dc] to end omitting last 3 dc, turn.
My sample – 79 dc, 32 tr, 16 ch-3.
Row 6: Begdc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, [3 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next tr, ch 2, tr2tog, ch 2, dc in next tr] to last ch-3, 3 dc in last ch-3 sp, dc in last 3 sts, turn.
My sample – 84 dc, 15 tr2tog, 30 ch-2.
Rep Rows 3 – 6until desired size, ending with Row 5.
My sample – I worked Rows 1 – 6 once, then Rows 3 – 6 five times, then Rows 3 – 5.
Edging
You have ended at Row 5 (bottom of shawl.)
1. Do not turn. Ch 1, rotate around the corner to work across short side. Sc evenly spaced across short side to end.
2. (Top of shawl) Ch 1, rotate around the corner to work across long side of foundation row, sc in each ch across to end.
3. Ch 1, rotate around the corner to work across short side. Sc evenly spaced across short side to end.
4. (Bottom of shawl) Ch 1 rotate around the corner to work on long side. Sc in vertical side of last sc just made, [place 1 sc in each dc and tr, and 3 sc in each ch-3 sp] across, sc in vertical side of first sc on short side, turn. My sample – 161 sc.
5. Ch 1, sc in first 4 sc, [ch 5, sk next 3 sc, sc in next 7 sc] to end, omitting last 3 sc, turn. My sample – 16 ch-5, 113 sc.
6. Ch 1, sc in first sc, [ch 1, Shell in next ch-5 lp, sk next 3 sc, sc in next sc] to end, turn.
My sample – 16 Shells, 17 sc.
7. Ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, *[(sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-1 sp] 5 times,** ch 2, (sc in next ch-1 sp) twice, ch 2, rep from * across, ending last rep at **, sc in last ch-1 sp, sl st in last sc. Finish off, weave in ends.

For the TR2TOG is there supposed to be a skip 3? Doing the math i need to skip 45 stitches to get to 159. And the "return pass" does have TRC cb3 TRC
Yes. If you look at the Special Stitches it explains to skip 3 stitches. 👍👍👍
