SLEIGH RIDE ORNAMENT SQUARE – MAKE 3
ABBREVIATIONS
BL = back loop
Beg = beginning
Ch/s = chain/s
Dc = double crochet
Dtr = double treble crochet
FL = front loop
Hdc = half double crochet
Hk = hook
Lp/s = loop/s
Sc = single crochet
Sk = skip/skipped
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/s = space/s
St/s = stitch/es
Tog = together
Tr = treble crochet
Yo = yarn over
HOOK – Crochet hook size I / 5.5mm
FINISHED SIZE – 8” square
SPECIAL STITCHES
Beg Puff St – Pull up a ½” tall lp (1 long lp on hk), (yo and insert hk into same sp, yo and pull up a long lp) 4 times, yo and draw through all 9 lps on hk.
Puff St – Yo, insert hk into specified sp, yo and pull up a ½” tall lp (3 lps on hk), (yo, pull up long lp in same sp) 3 times, yo and draw through all 9 lps on hk.
Fpdc (front post double crochet): Yo and insert hk from front to back and to front again around post of st indicated, yo and pull up a lp, complete as regular dc.
Pick up tr – Insert hk first into BL of Color F tr directly in front and then into designated st behind it, complete a sc.
INSTRUCTIONS – Make 3.
With E ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring – or make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: BegPuff St in ring, ch 2, [Puff St in ring, ch 2] 5 times, join with sl st to top of BegPuff St. Finish off. (6 Puff St, 6 ch-2)
Rnd 2: Join B with sl st to any ch-2 sp, (BegPuff St, ch 2, Puff St) in same sp, ch 2, [(Puff St, ch 2, Puff St) in next ch-2 sp, ch 2] around, join with sl st to top of BegPuff St. Finish off. (12 Puff St, 12 ch-2)
Rnd 3: Join E with sl st to any ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 hdc in same sp, ch 1, [3 hdc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1] around, join with sl st to beg hdc. Finish off. (36 hdc, 12 ch-1)
Rnd 4: Working in BL this Rnd, join C with sc to first hdc of any 3hdc group, sc in next 2 hdc [sk next ch-1, fpdc around top of next Rnd 2 Puff St, sc in next 3 hdc] around omitting last 3 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (12 fpdc, 36 sc)
Rnd 5: Working in BL this Rnd, join F with sl st to any fpdc, ch 1, hdc in same and next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around, join with sl st to beg hdc. Finish off. (60 hdc)
Rnd 6: Working in BL this Rnd, join D with sc one st after any hdc above a Rnd 4 fpdc, sc in next 3 sts, [fpdc around next fpdc, sk next hdc behind fpdc just made, sc in next 4 sts] around omitting last 4 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (12 fpdc, 48 sc)
Rnd 7: Working in BL this Rnd, join B with sl st to any fpdc, ch 1, hdc in same and next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around, join with sl st to beg hdc. Finish off. (72 hdc)
Rnd 8: Working in BL this Rnd, join A with sc to any hdc above a Rnd 6 fpdc, sc in each st around, join with sl st to FL of beg sc, leaving BL unworked. Do not finish off. (72 sc)
Rnd 9: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in FL of next 6 sts. Finish off. (7 tr)
Rnd 10: Working in BL entire Rnd, join G with sc to behind ch-4 join, sc in of next 6 sts, [hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next st, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts] around omitting last 7 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. (21 sts per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in next 13 sts, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 21 sts] around omitting last 14 dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (25 dc per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 12: Ch 1, working in BL of each tr and both lps of Rnd 11, pick up tr and sc in same st as join, sc in next 6 sts of Rnd 11 while picking up each consecutive tr in BL (see Special Stitches), [sc in each st to ch-2 sp, (sc, hdc, sc) in ch-2 sp] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off leaving a long tail for joining. (27 sc per side, 4 hdc for corners)

LARGE SQUARE – MAKE 3
HOOK – Crochet hook size I / 5.5mm
FINISHED SIZE – 8” square

1. The hdc join counts as a ch-2 join.
2. Turn after each Rnd.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (count as dc), 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring] 3 times, join with hdc to top of beg ch-3. TURN. (12 dc, 4 ch-2)
Rnds 2 – 7: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in same sp just made, dc in each st to next corner ch-2 sp, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st to next corner ch-2 sp] 3 times, 2 dc in beg ch-2 sp to complete corner, join with hdc to top of beg ch-3. TURN. Finish off after Rnd 7, leaving a long tail for joining. (Sts per side after each Rnd – 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27)

Why are there numbers after each color? It isn't yardage, is it the yarn color number??

Those are yarn color numbers. This yarn has a name and a number.
