DECK THE HALLS ORNAMENT SQUARE – MAKE 3
ABBREVIATIONS
BL = back loop
Beg = beginning
Ch/s = chain/s
Dc = double crochet
Dtr = double treble crochet
FL = front loop
Hdc = half double crochet
Hk = hook
Lp/s = loop/s
Sc = single crochet
Sk = skip/skipped
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/s = space/s
St/s = stitch/es
Tog = together
Tr = treble crochet
Yo = yarn over
HOOK – Crochet hook size I / 5.5mm
FINISHED SIZE – 8” square
SPECIAL STITCHES
Pick up tr – Insert hk first into BL of Color F tr directly in front and then into designated st behind it, complete a sc.
INSTRUCTIONS – Make 3.
With C ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring – or make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 12 hdc in ring, join with sl st to beg hdc. Finish off. (12 hdc)
Rnd 2: Join D with sc to any st, sc in each st around, join with sl st to beg sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in same st, ch 3, sk next st, [2 dc in next st, ch 3, sk next st] around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (12 dc, 6 ch-3)
Rnd 4: Working behind Rnd 3, join F with sl st to any sk sc on Rnd 2, ch 3 (count as dc), 2 dc in same st, ch 1, [3 dc in next sk sc, ch 1] around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (18 dc, 6 ch-1)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, [insert hk under ch-3 lp in front and into next dc on Rnd 4, complete a sc, sc in next dc, 2 sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in next dc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (30 sc)
Rnd 6: Join B with sc to first sc after join, sc in each st around, join with sl st to beg sc. (30 sc)
Rnd 7: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in same st, ch 2, sk next st, [2 dc in next st, ch 2, sk next st] around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (30 dc, 15 ch-2)
Rnd 8: With E and working behind Rnd 7, rep Rnd 4. (45 dc, 15 ch-1)
Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same st, [insert hk under ch-2 lp in front and into next dc on Rnd 8, complete a sc, sc in next dc, 1 sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in next dc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (60 sc)
Rnd 10: Join D with sc to any st, sc in same st, [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] around omitting last 2 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (72 sc)
Rnd 11: Working in BL this Rnd, join A with sc to any st, sc in each st around, join with sl st to FL of beg sc , leaving BL unworked. (72 sc)
Rnd 12: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in FL of next 6 sts. Finish off. (7 tr)
Rnd 13: Working in BL entire Rnd, join G with sc to behind ch-4 join, sc in of next 6 sts, [hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next st, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts] around omitting last 7 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. (21 sts per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in next 13 sts, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 21 sts] around omitting last 14 dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (25 dc per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 15: Ch 1, working in BL of each tr, pick up tr and sc in same st as join, sc in both lps of next 6 sts of Rnd 14 while picking up each consecutive tr in BL (see Special Stitches), [sc in both lps of each st to ch-2 sp, (sc, hdc, sc) in ch-2 sp] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off leaving a long tail for joining. (27 sc per side, 4 hdc for corners)
