Help Me Find a Charity
November 25, 2009

After all the designing of 12″ squares that I’ve been doing lately, I realized that I have a good dozen squares on hand. Now I don’t need these squares for anything, other than the design process. These are some really nice 12″ squares, and they need a good charity home to go to. I’ve looked around and all the charities that I’ve found who request crochet squares, want 8″ squares. There has to be a charity out there somewhere that will take 12″ squares!!! Please, if you know of one, leave me a comment with the website so I can check it out. I want a legitimate charity of course. 🙂 Here’s a photo of my charity squares. It’s a whole chair full of them. I hope they will find a good home.

My hubby is a fast knitter – at least I think so. He doesn’t have that much time to actually sit down and knit, but when he does, it seems as though he gets so much done in such a short amount of time. Here he is working on his sweater that he’s knitting for himself.
And what have I been doing lately? I’m trying so hard to finish the Hello Kitty Afghan for my daughter-in-law for Christmas. I need to finish it at least by 12/11 so it has time to ship to her. I might not get it finished. I’ve still got 5 more teal squares that I need to border with 3 rounds of brown. Then attach all the kitty faces to all 12 squares, then sew the squares together. I want to add a real nice border, so that will take some time to do. I’ve decided that if I don’t get it done in time for Christmas, then it will be a birthday gift in April. But I’m still gonna push as hard as I can and try to finish it for Christmas. Wish me luck! Here’s what I have so far.
Now I must start my Thanksgiving cooking. I’m in charge of deviled eggs, corn, and brownies. My family will meet at my sister’s house tomorrow. My son is deep-frying a turkey Cajun style. Yummy! I hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving and please – count your blessings. We have so many to be thankful for. Just take a moment and think about it. Even in these bad economic times, and through all the difficulties we must face, we are still blessed and have many things to thank God for.

Try heartmadeblessings.com See if they still want/need/take squares. Last time I shipped a box of squares I had done a google search for "squares donation" or something like that and found many links. I have about 100 squares myself right now. I need to attach my name to them, then they're ready to ship. Do you have a favorite square pattern? One of my favorites is called "cable hearts", it's a pattern by Chris Simon.

why not chain them together yourself, and take to a local nursing home and give them to one of the residents there? That way you can meet the person and do a good deed at the same time.

I'm not sure if you've already found a charity to donate to, but I have a suggestion. 🙂 If you wouldn't mind the shipping, I'll take the squares, put them together into an afghan or two, and donate them to one of the shelters or charities in my area. I currently live in Minnesota and have plans to move to Portland, OR in the summer. You should be able to message me on the link below.
