Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying the CAL so far. I have lots of fun dishcloths to share with you in the coming days. Today’s dishcloth is a pretty one. It consists of a V-St variation. The most common V-St that you’re probably familiar with uses the double crochet (Dc) stitch. In this pattern, we’ll use the half double crochet (Hdc) stitch. I love the Hdc, and I think it’s my favorite of all the common stitches. 

We’ll also be working with clusters. There are so many different cluster (Cl) stitches. I use them quite frequently in my patterns, in many different forms. Today’s clusters are the most common- using 3 Dc stitches. These all combine together to create a lovely dishcloth.

MATERIALS & GUIDELINES

ANY WORSTED WEIGHT COTTON

I USED HOBBY LOBBY CRAFTER’S SECRET

A: VINTAGE GREEN 54

B: PINK 20

        

CROCHET HOOK SIZE I / 5.5 mm

TAPESTRY NEEDLE

SIZE AFTER BLOCKING:

9” X 9”

ABBREVIATIONS:    

Beg = beginning

Ch/s = chain/s

Dc= double crochet

Hdc = half double crochet

Hk = hook

Lp/s = loop/s

Rem = remains

Rep = repeat

RS = right side of fabric

Sc = single crochet

Sk = skip

Sl St = slip stitch

Sp/s = space/s

St/s = stitch/es

WS = wrong side of fabric

Yo = yarn over

SPECIAL STITCHES:

V-St: (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in same st.

BegCl (beginning cluster): (Ch 2, dc) in same st.

Cl (cluster): Work 3 dc in same st until last lp of each rem on hk (4 lps on hk), yo and draw through all 4 lps.

EndCl (end cluster): work 2 dc in same st until last lp of each rem on hk (3 lps on hk), yo and draw through all 3 lps.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: You will be cutting Color A after each two row repeat when indicated. Color B will be dropped to side of work and then picked up again when indicated. Color B will not be cut, but will run up along side of cloth. Border will be worked over it.

Row 1: (RS) With A ch 26, working in back bumps of chs, sc in 2^nd ch from hk and in each ch to end, ch 2 (counts as hdc for next row), turn. (25 sc)

Row 2: (WS) Hdc in first st, sk next st, [V-St in next st, sk next st] to last st, 2 hdc in last st joining B in last st, turn. Finish off A. (11 V-St, 4 hdc)

Row 3: With B – BegCl in first st, ch 1, [Cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] to end, EndCl in last st joining A in last st, ch 1, turn. Drop B to side – do not cut. (11 Cl, 1 BegCl, 1 EndC, 12 ch-1l)

Row 4: With A – Sc in top of EndCl, sc in next ch-1 sp, [sc in top of next Cl, sc in next ch-1 sp] to BegCl, sc in top of BegCl, ch 2, turn. (25 sc)

Rows 5 – 19: Rep Rows 2 – 4.

Row 20: (Ch-2 counts as first hdc) Hdc in each st to end. Finish off A and B. (25 hdc)

BORDER

Rnd. 1: With RS facing, join B with sc to the top right st of last row just made, (hdc, sc) in same st, sc in next 23 sts, (sc, hdc, sc) in last st of row.

Rotate cloth to work on vertical side, work 23 sc evenly across this side.

Rotate cloth to work on bottom of beg chs, (sc, hdc, sc) in first ch, sc in next 23 chs,(sc, hdc, sc) in last ch of foundation chs.

Rotate cloth to work on vertical side, work 23 sc evenly across this side, join with sl st to beg sc.

Rnd. 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), hdc in same st, work 3 hdc in each corner hdc and 1 hdc in each sc around, join with sl st to beg hdc. Finish off. Weave in all ends.
