Welcome to Week 2 of the Holiday Baubles Blanket CAL!

LET’S GET STARTED!

SLEIGH RIDE ORNAMENT SQUARE – MAKE 3

 

ABBREVIATIONS

BL = back loop

Beg = beginning

Ch/s = chain/s

Dc = double crochet

Dtr = double treble crochet

FL = front loop

Hdc = half double crochet

Hk = hook

Lp/s = loop/s

Sc = single crochet

Sk = skip/skipped

Sl st = slip stitch

Sp/s = space/s

St/s = stitch/es

Tog = together

Tr = treble crochet

Yo = yarn over

HOOK – Crochet hook size I / 5.5mm

FINISHED SIZE – 8” square

 

SPECIAL STITCHES

Bpsc (back post single crochet) – Insert hk from back to front to back around post of st indicated, yo and pull up lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hk. 

Fpsc (front post single crochet) – insert hk from front to back and to front again around post of st indicated, yo and pull up a lp, complete as regular sc. 

Cl (cluster) – Keeping last lp of each st on hk, 2 tr in same st, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hk. 

Cl-3 (3 clusters) – [(Cl, ch 3) twice, Cl] all in same st. 

Pick up tr – Insert hk first into BL of Color F tr directly in front and then into designated st behind it, complete a sc.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

 

With E ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring – or make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Join D with sl st to any st, ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), [dc in next st, ch 2] around, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-5. Finish off. (12 dc, 12 ch-2)


 Note: In next Rnd, you will work sts on Rnd 1 and Rnd 2. Work dc behind Rnd 2 sts, and work sc on top of Rnd 2 sts.   Rnd 1 will contain 2 dc in each st.

Rnd 3: Working behind Rnd 2 sts, join F with sl st to any Rnd 1 dc, ch 3, [sc in next Rnd 2 dc, work behind Rnd 2 sts and dc in next Rnd 1 dc] around omitting last dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (12 dc, 12 sc)

Rnd 4: Working on Rnd 3, join B with sc to any sc, [sk next dc, 7 dc in next sc, sk next dc, sc in next sc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (6 Petals)

Rnd 5: Join E with sc to any sc, [bpsc around next 7 dc, sc in next sc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (42 bpsc, 6 sc)

Rnd 6: Join C with sc to the 4th (middle) bpsc of any Petal, sk next 3 bpsc, [Cl-3 in next sc, sk next 3 bpsc, sc in next bpsc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (6 Cl-3, 6 sc)

Rnd 7: Join D with sc to any sc, [(fpsc around top of next Cl, 4 sc in next ch-3 sp) twice, fpsc around top of next Cl, sc in next sc] around omitting last sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (18 fpsc, 54 sc)

Rnd 8: Join E with sl st to Rnd 7 join, ch 4 (count as tr), [dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next st] around omitting last tr, join with sl st to top of beg ch-4. Finish off. (72 sts)

Rnd 9: Working in BL this Rnd, join A with sc to 3rd st after Rnd 8 join, sc in each st around, join with sl st to FL of beg sc (leaving BL unworked.)  (72 sc)

Rnd 10: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in FL of next 6 sts. Finish off. (7 tr)

Rnd 11: Working in BL entire Rnd, join G with sc to behind ch-4 join, sc in of next 6 sts, [hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next st, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts] around omitting last 7 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. (21 sts per side, 4 ch-2)

Rnd 12: Ch 3, dc in next 13 sts, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 21 sts] around omitting last 14 dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.  (25 dc per side, 4 ch-2)

Rnd 13: Ch 1, working in BL of each tr, pick up tr and sc in same st as join, sc in both lps of next 6 sts of Rnd 12 while picking up each consecutive tr in BL (see Special Stitches), [sc in both lps of each st to ch-2 sp, (sc, hdc, sc) in ch-2 sp] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off leaving a long tail for joining.  (27 sc per side, 4 hdc for corners)  

Note: If desired, with C, add surface sl st to top of Rnd 1. See photo above.
