STAR OF WONDER ORNAMENT SQUARE – MAKE ONLY 1
ABBREVIATIONS
BL = back loop
Beg = beginning
Ch/s = chain/s
Dc = double crochet
Dtr = double treble crochet
FL = front loop
Hdc = half double crochet
Hk = hook
Lp/s = loop/s
Sc = single crochet
Sk = skip/skipped
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/s = space/s
St/s = stitch/es
Tog = together
Tr = treble crochet
Yo = yarn over
HOOK – Crochet hook size I / 5.5mm
FINISHED SIZE – 8” square
SPECIAL STITCHES
Pick up tr – Insert hk first into BL of Color F tr directly in front and then into designated st behind it, complete a sc.
INSTRUCTIONS– Make only 1.
With D ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring – or make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 12 hdc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg hdc. (12 hdc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st, 2 sc in each st around, join with sl st to beg sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 3: [Ch 8, sl st in 3rd ch from hk, sl st in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next ch, sk next 3 sc on Rnd 2, sl st in next sc] around, placing last sl st in join. Finish off. (6 Points)
Rnd 4: Working behind Points, join F with dc to BL of any sk sc on Rnd 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in BL of each sk sc around, join with sl st to beg dc. (36 dc)
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, 1 dc in next st, [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st] around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (54 dc)
Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, [dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st] around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (72 dc)
Rnd 7: Straighten out star points and align with Rnd 6. With C, place slip knot on hk, insert hk first into top of any point and then into aligned dc directly behind it, complete a sc, sc in next 11 sts, [sc into next star point and next dc, sc in next 11 sts] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off. (72 sc)
Rnd 8: Working in BL this Rnd, join A with sc 3 sts before any star point sc, sc in each st around, join with sl st to FL of beg sc (leaving BL unworked.) (72 sc)
Rnd 9: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in FL of next 6 sts. Finish off. (7 tr)
Rnd 10: Working in BL entire Rnd, join G with sc to behind ch-4 join, sc in of next 6 sts, [hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next st, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts] around omitting last 7 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. (21 sts per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in next 13 sts, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 21 sts] around omitting last 14 dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (25 dc per side, 4 ch-2)
Rnd 12: Ch 1, working in BL of each tr, pick up tr and sc in same st as join, sc in both lps of next 6 sts of Rnd 12 while picking up each consecutive tr in BL (see Special Stitches), [sc in both lps of each st to ch-2 sp, (sc, hdc, sc) in ch-2 sp] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off leaving a long tail for joining. (27 sc per side, 4 hdc for corners)
SMALL SQUARE – Make 24
INSTRUCTIONS
Make a total of 24 Small Squares.
Make 4 each in the following colors: A, B, C, D, E, F.
With (A, B, C, D, E, F) ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring – or make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (count as dc), 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring] 3 times, join with hdc to top of beg ch-3. TURN. (12 dc, 4 ch-2)
Rnds 2 – 4: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in same sp just made, dc in each st to next corner ch-2 sp, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st to next corner ch-2 sp] 3 times, 2 dc in beg ch-2 sp to complete corner, join with hdc to top of beg ch-3. TURN. Finish off after Rnd 4, leaving a long tail for sewing. (Sts per side after each Rnd – 7, 11, 15)
