INSTRUCTIONS

Note: For those working the Non-Holiday version, you may join your squares as desired. I do not give instructions for this. For inspiration, look through the Ravelry project pages, or my  Facebook Group to see what others have done.

JOIN SQUARES – Make 7 Panels

Using long tails and working on WS, join squares as shown in diagram below using the whip stitch.

Note: The end tail of the Ornament squares is in the middle of the top of square. Thread your tapestry needle with it and weave under top sts over to the right hand corner so that your end is positioned in the corner. Now all your squares will have the tail in the same position, ready for joining. Proceed with joining squares.

EXTENSIONS

1. Worked in rows.

2. On Row 1, the first ch-2 and first dc count as a dc2tog.

Special Stitches

Dc2tog (double crochet two stitches together) – Yo, insert hk in next st, yo and pull up lp, yo and draw through 2 lps, (2 lps on hk), rep into next ch-2 sp until 3 lps on hk, yo and draw through all lps on hk. Counts as 1 dc.

Add an extension on both ends of the following joined panels: 2, 4, & 6.

Work a total of 6 extensions.

Row 1: With RS facing, find  the right-hand corner ch-2 sp or hdc on the end of panel, join G with sl st to ch-2 corner sp or hdc, ch 2, dc in next 26 sts, dc2tog placing first leg in last st and second leg in next ch-2 corner sp or hdc. Turn. (27 dc)

Rows 2 – 7: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in next 26 sts. Turn (27 dc)

Finish off after Row 7.

Join with sl st at arrow.

JOIN PANELS

Using G and working on WS, join panels as shown in diagram below  using  the whip stitch.

Once all 7 panels are joined, weave in all ends.

BORDER THIS SECTION

Rnd 1: Join G with sc to top right corner, 2 sc in same sp, [work 1 sc in each st and ch-2 sp across, and 3 sc in each corner sp] around, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off.

JOIN SMALL SQUARES

Using long tails, join small squares on WS with whip stitch.

Make two panels of 12 squares in the following order:

With G and working on WS, sew first panel to top of blanket, and second panel to bottom of blanket. I used the mattress stitch here to prevent color bleeding. Stitches may not match up, but the size should.

BORDER

Rnd 1: Join A with sc to any st on any side, [work 1 sc in each st/sp, and 3 sc in each corner st/sp], join with sl st to beg sc. Do not turn.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in same st, [work 1 sc in each st, and 3 sc in each corner st], join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off.

FINISHING

Weave in all ends and block as desired.

    Hi Melinda
My church group has selected Baubles as a group project. There are 8 of us so I will need to divide the yarn. Can you tell me approximately how much yarn is need for the large, small and ornament square patterns? Thank you!!
